Nature Photos: The Case for a Longer Lens

Published by:  MSN Photos
Tutorial Preview:

Because the sensor in many digital cameras is smaller than 35mm film, any lens you put on a digital SLR will have more of a telephoto effect than it would on a film camera. This means you lose some of the "wide" in a wide-angle lens. Conventional wisdom says that the second lens for your digital camera should be an ultra-wide angle, to compensate for the magnification inherent in the format. But if you enjoy nature photography, you might want to consider going the other direction by turning a normal telephoto zoom lens into a super telephoto. That added magnification can be a valuable asset in photographing both landscape and wildlife subjects.
